Information environments (co)designed by information architects have an important search function (for reaching information). Using the English-language literature as an example, the author characterises user activities referred to as ‘exploratory search’, in connection with users’ cognitive tasks. The aim of the presentation is to clarify and organise Polish terminology related to exploratory practices and user experiences. An analysis of the Polish literature in the area of information science in the 21st century is evidence of considerable terminological confusion (specific examples will be indicated). In the author’s opinion, the need for order, accuracy and terminological consistency is particularly necessary in the conditions of the dynamically shaping development of information architecture (AI) in Poland, especially as an academic discipline. The findings made are expected to be an important contribution to the theory and methodology of the Polish school of AI. The author hopes for a constructive discussion among information professionals initiated by the presented proposals.
