Metadata and taxonomies of multimodal digital cultural objects in practice: the case of the archives of the Museum of Coal Mining in Zabrze

The Mining Documentation Centre, operating within the Coal Mining Museum in Zabrze, is responsible for digitising historical documents, photographs, maps and 3D objects (buildings, machinery) related to the history of mining. The following presentation will outline the author’s work to date, focused on creating and implementing a metadata schema to describe this diverse collection of data with a view to making it publicly available online via a shared portal. In addition to theoretical commentary, practical procedures related to the implementation of the aforementioned schema will also be described – both within existing museum/archival systems and in an organisational sense. Finally, plans and the preparations made for them will be presented, particularly those related to geolocation issues.
