This presentation addresses the issue of visualising security information within institutional digital systems, such as portals, resource access systems and digital repositories. The starting point is the assumption that user security depends not only on technical mechanisms, but also on the way in which messages, alerts, forms and other interface elements are presented. The aim of the paper is to demonstrate that the visualisation of security information influences the understanding of messages, the user’s orientation within the system, and decision-making. The presentation focuses on the relationship between information architecture, usability and user protection, highlighting that information security in institutional systems should also be analysed as a communication and design issue.
